PROPUBLICA is a non -profit editorial staff that investigates the abuse of power. Sign up for getting Our biggest stories As soon as they are published.

What happened: Three democratic senators have asked the Ministry of Justice and other federal bodies to investigate whether the members of the Government’s Department help to reduce federal agencies, violate conflicts of interest, keeping shares in the regulatory campaigns.

A letter sent on Wednesday Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wider and Jack Reid refers to a propublica that reports how one assistant Appointed to the Consumer Financial Defense Bureau, he helped observe the mass dismissal of the agency staff while maintaining $ 715,000, which is forbidden to own employees.

What did they say: The cases of DOGE’s assistants “emphasize what seems to be a broad problem with Elon Musk and Doge staff, who are ethics and laws to benefit their own pockets at the expense of the American public,” “The Legislators said in a letter.

Warren and Reid are sitting in the Banking Committee, housing and city affairs. Wider is a member of the finance committee’s rating.

The letter was asked by the Prosecutor General Bondi, the Office of Government Ethics and the Three General Inspectors with the CFPB, the Treasury and the IRS to investigate the finances of the doctrine, including whether they were correctly deprived of any controversial possessions and their specific work. “The American people deserves the answers to whether their own interests can blow up the Trump administration officials who acted in violation of federal ethics laws,” the letter reads.

Prerequisites: In recent weeks, Propublica reported it At least two DOGE assistants assigned to CFPB The agency is supported by the financial arrangements that experts have either appeared or are conflicts of interest. In the case of Guwin Cligger Propublica reports this Ethics lawyers warned a 25-year-old program engineer that he could not contain his actions and participate in the main actions of the agency. A few days later, he helped observe the layoffs of almost 90% of CFPB-action employees, which one expert called “a fairly clear violation” of the Federal Criminal Conflict Statute.

Answer: Doj refused to comment. Neither the Ministry of Finance, IRS, DOGE, nor CFPB responded to comment requests. The OG press -secretary said the agency did not comment on “situations in specific agencies”. The cligger did not respond to e -mails seeking comments. Earlier, the White House stated that “these accusations are another attempt to reduce the critical DEGE mission.” It adds that the cligger “did not even cope with” dismissals, “making all this story with a straight lies.”

Why is it important: Trump administration has repeatedly checked the limits of mixing personal and public business from the president Own raid in the cryptocurrency industry to the double roles of Elon Mus as both Founder of Dogel and a major federal contractor. (Moscow announced on Wednesday that he leaves the administration.)

Legislator’s letter adds growth Choir Group Good Government having called for an investigation in the cligger’s action in CFPB. Federal prosecutors may charge government workers who violate the criminal conflict charter, a crime punishable by a fine of up to $ 250,000 and up to five years in prison. But one expert earlier said propublica that it is unlikely to happen at Trump, as the administration “greatly violated public conscientiousness, ethics and corruption in society as issues.”
