The Taranaki Maunga Collective Amendment Bill was adopted in the Law in the New Zealand Parliament on Thursday – giving Harry a legal name and protecting the surrounding peaks and land.

He also recognizes Maori’s worldview that natural features, including mountains, are ancestors and living things.

“Today, Taranaki, Taranaki Mountains, from Harry), shackles of injustice, shackles of the Maori Political Party (Maori Party).

Ngarewa-Packer-one of eight Taranak Ivi, on the west coast of New Zealand to which the mountain is holy.

Hundreds of other Maori from the area also appeared in parliament on Thursday to see how the bill became a law.

The mountain will no longer be officially known as Egmont – the British researcher James Cook in the 18th century – and will be called Maang Taran, while the surrounding National Park will also be named Maori.

Aisha Campbell, who also from Taranak Ivi, said 1news that it was important for her to be at the event, and that the mountain “is what binds us and what binds us as a people.”

The Maung Taranka settlement is the last one that has been reached from Maor in an attempt to compensate for the Wautangi contract – which created New Zealand as a country and provided indigenous people with certain rights to their land and resources.

The settlement also came to the government for the confiscation of the Taranaki mountain and more than a million hectares of land from local Maori in the 1860s.

Paul Goldsmith acknowledged that “the contract violations mean that a huge and complex damage was done to the WHānau (a wider family), a hop (in Subariber) and Ivi Taranaki, causing immeasurable damage over the decades.”

He added that the agreement was reached that the Harry would not change and that “all new Zealand will be able to continue to visit and enjoy this most beautiful place for generations.”

The mountain is not the first of the natural features of New Zealand to receive a legal entity.

In 2014, the Urever’s native forest became the first to receive this status, after which the Vanganui River in 2017.
