The Battle of Immigration Rights is played in the US cities, where new content centers are accommodated in private immigration. From Newark, New Tishsei, Ras Barack is one of the resistance votes. There, in NewDelani Hall, the mayor of the largest city of New Jersey and leader in the governor’s race protested against the immigration agenda of the Republicans when he was arrested by ice agents and detained for hours. His allegations were dropped, but Barack does not recede. On June 3, he announced a lawsuit against the US -Jersey Chargian Prosecutor Alina Habba and DHS Agent Ricky for false arrest, malicious persecution and slander. I talked to the barrack to find out what happened in weeks after arrest, and why cities such as Newark are aiming at Trump’s administration. And in the governor’s race, what are his priorities and his federal financing strategy? When he is elected, he will become the first black governor in New Jersey and only the second black governor in the country. If he is not chosen, he is still a politician to observe how he insists on promoting a promising thinking policy, even in these difficult times.
Laura Flanders: Let’s start with this confrontation at the Delani Hall in Newark. What is the status of an object? Who is there? And what is your care about this place?
Ras Barack: This is a private prison. The government has a contract to place some of its detainees there so that they do not possess the property. They have no rental property. We wanted them to allow our inspectors to check the property and apply for a certificate for posting. They don’t have it. But they decided to put people in the property, whether it would be detained, workers, or anyone who should not be there, without a certificate of occupancy. We took with this Umbrage and we were in court. Our congress decided to go there. I came to a press -commercial, and it grew into them, arresting me. Thank God the allegations have been dismissed, but we still have accusations of Congress -Lomonik Makiver that we are trying to fire when we talk.
LF: How do you see your arrest and accusation in your collection Lamonica Mciver in a broader context of what is happening in this country?
RB: We are moving very quickly toward authoritarianism when we have not yet arrived there. You talk about people who arrest mayors, judges, congress, those whom they think will challenge them. Deporting people with green cards and visas simply because they have different ideologies. He runs to people who are essentially citizens. Violating the proper process of people. These people have adopted the Congress legislation in the House of Representatives to stop the federal courts to prohibit their executive orders, or all they think should do it under the Constitution. This is dangerous and we must be very concerned.
LF: Do you think you were oriented personally? Because the video looks like that.
RB: Absolutely. I was in the facility for more than an hour and a half, just stood there, and they came and aimed at me. They sent me because I am the mayor of the city. They sent me because I was trying to prosecute the city laws there.
LF: Geo, a non -profit company that has a place that has received a contract.
RB: This is true. Yes, yes, they sent me. They followed me. When I left the object, they continued to follow me and still arrested me.
LF: I saw you quoting somewhere, giving up the status of Newark urban cities, it would be like giving up democracy. How so?
RB: Immigration is a key component for this country. We advertised the rest of the world that we found the best because the bread is sliced. What we need to be envious of the world, because we have this democracy and our constitution defends this. Why don’t you think people will come here and try and see how it fits? To restore this promise makes us a different place than what we taught our children.
LF: Now you, like many cities that are governed by Democrats, are faced with a serious pressure from the republican policy coming from Washington, reduction and reducing health, and you call it. Describe Newark for people who don’t know it.
RB: Newark is the largest city in the state. It is a working class city, an average income of about $ 37,000. It has always been an immigration community and it was the power of this city. We have done huge things in this city. Changing the horizon, makes affordable housing. It reduced the violent crime by 61 percent, reduced the street homelessness. Made a guaranteed profit. Hundreds of families have used this as part of the major mayors for guaranteed income. We have expanded the broadcast connection, put it in every public park in the city, every recreational center, and we gave it to people in our community for $ 20.
LF: How do you deal with this moment when you feel so much that you got the risk? Under the threat of major large -scale deductions, the funds coming from the federal government that leave cities such as yours, which tolerate can.
RB: This is at risk. All programs, from community development, provide dollars, housing, Medicaid, Snap. People will be homeless without vouchers. So, it will have a devastating effect on Newark and many such communities. That is why we need states to activate. We need people to push away from what is happening through the judicial system. But we must also be creative. What we need to do now is to find out how we have a Medicaid system that separates from what the federal government does.
LF: You have a lot of competitors in the primary election. How do you distinguish yourself from the rest?
RB: I think this is quite understandable when you hear we talk about discussions. What I try to do is much more creative, much more creative. People say it’s too progressive. I think to make a rich fee of a fair share is not too progressive. I think that the creation of state control rent and construction of affordable housing is not too progressive, or a public version that exists in many countries that have full health care is not too radical and not too progressive. I think these are the problems that people expect when we talk. Courage and leadership is probably most important because Maya Angela said that courage is the most important value because it gives you the opportunity to practice everyone else.
LF: I need to ask you what I heard from some people what was your position indoors Delaney Hall to stand out among this package that is running for the governor?
RB: I think it’s funny. What people forget to understand I was there. I was there every morning before arrest, at 7:00 with fire inspectors, trying to get entry with ice agents. If I wanted to the podium, I could, but it was not my goal. I went down to the press conference at 13:30 together with congresses, and people with internal security are the ones that grew, not us. When you see the video, I entered because they asked me to come and then started trying to sign me and make all these other things. It was completely avoided and completely unnecessary.
LF: I heard you on national television addressed other members of the National Congress and Senatorial Delegations, but certainly those from New Jersey. They have?
RB: We have a lot of calls, many wishes. Many people said a few things, but I don’t think there are collective actions. That’s not enough. When I go up and down on New Jersey, people are very afraid and they say we need a guide. I think there are many people demonstrating the guide. I don’t think people feel it because there is no collective thing. There is no cooperation. No one plans anything. This is all spontaneous and individualized, and there is no real strategy for how we push for these people at the national level.
LF: Where do you draw your strength? And what is your message to people who may
RB: I tell people that I am also afraid, but I pray that fear does not turn me into a coward. And the reality is that we cannot be the only generation that does not sacrifice the opposition, our proximity to influence, our privilege, our power for generations that follow us. Many people were in prison, they have lost their lives so that we enjoy the democracy we have today, and this is graded by us.
