In a new interview Wired this week the apple Tim Cook spoke about His relationship with the late Steve Jobsthe legendary founder’s vision convinced Apple that it would thrive, even when critics thought it was doomed.
“If you remember, Michael Dell said that if he were CEO he would shut down Apple and return the remaining assets to shareholders,” Cook said. “Michael just said what everyone else thought.”
But Interview with Jobs In 1998 he changed everything. “When I went out to talk to Steve about working at Apple, he felt so alive and so different. He was passionate about the product, Apple and its purpose,” Cook said. “From that moment on, I never thought Apple would go out of business.”
Cook would join Apple, leaving a secure position at Compaq, despite warnings from colleagues about Apple’s precarious situation. (Keep in mind, this was years before the iPod, iTunes, and iPhone came along, marking what many consider to be Apple’s renaissance.) After Jobs’ death in 2011, Cook took over as CEOoverseeing the company’s transformation into one of the world’s most valuable brands.
Here are some other key takeaways from the interview:
Cook goes to Steve Jobs’ old office for inspiration
More than a decade after Jobs’ death, his old office at Apple’s former headquarters, One Infinite Loop, remains intact. Cook revealed that he still occasionally visits the office to find inspiration in the space where Jobs worked.
“Nobody’s been in there,” Cook said Wired. “I like the connection I have with Steve, and I like the connection the company has with Steve. It is from him that our values and our DNA are born.”
The office serves as a touchstone for Cook and a reminder of Jobs’ lasting impact on Apple’s culture. Although Apple Park now serves as the company’s headquarters, One Infinite Loop, in Cupertino, California, remains a symbol of the company’s history.
AI is about to “reinvent” everything at Apple
As Apple navigates a new era of technological innovation, Cook sees artificial intelligence as the next transformative chapter for the company
“AI will reinvent and deliver a new era and a new chapter for iPhone, iPad and Mac,” Cook said in the interview. “We are at the beginning.”
Cook highlighted the potential for AI to reshape how we interact with users Apple productsmaking them more intuitive and able to handle complex multi-step tasks. While Siri remains the cornerstone of Apple’s AI efforts, Cook suggested there are significant advances ahead.
“I think more people will have a relationship with Siri because it will be more personally relevant and they can take away tasks,” he said.
For Cook, AI has the same innovative potential as the iPhone’s introduction of multi-touch technology, which revolutionized smartphones. With AI, Apple believes it is poised to usher in a new era of innovation, as it has done for the past few decades.
