This is a problem that worries Jose Maria Garcia Lara, the director of the juventud 2000 migration shelter in Tihuan. Showing me around an object that is already approaching his ability, he says there are very few places he can place more families.
“If we need, we can put people in the kitchen or library,” he says.
There is a moment when there is simply no space left – and donations of food, medical materials, blankets and hygienic products will be stretched too thin.
“We get into two fronts. First, the arrival of Mexicans and other migrants who are escaping from violence,” says Mr. Garcia.
“But also, we will have mass deportations. We do not know how many people will face the border that requires our assistance. Together, these two things can create a huge problem.”
