President Donald Trump said the United States will receive control of Greenland by showing a new interest in acquiring the autonomous Danish territory in recent weeks.
“I think we will have it,” he said on Saturday to the Air Force, adding that 56,000 residents on the island “want to be with us”.
His comments come after the report that Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederixen insisted that Greenland is not sold in a fiery phone call with the president last week.
Trump first sailed the prospect of buying the territory during the first term in 2019, and said US control over Greenland is an “absolute need” for international security.
