A Treasure Trove of Education Reports and Studies is Under Threat

Parents, teachers, researchers and educational politicians are affected. “Determining Eric will limit public access to critical education research, preventing evidence -based practices and informed political decisions, vital for the development of US education,” sent an email to Gladys Cruz, chief of school, named Questar III Boces, New York.

Proposal to reduce cost reduction

Pollard Young said that before leaving the education department, she worked frantically to comply with Dog’s request to reduce Eric’s annual budget from $ 5.5 million to $ 2.25 million. The cuts were painful. It will need to reduce 45 percent of magazines added to the database each year. The Public Aid Bureau will be eliminated. And Pollard Young agreed to personally take the additional task of directly communicating with 1500 publishers, something that is processed by AEM Education Services, a supplier who collects, analyzes and manages the government data.

These proposed abbreviations do not satisfy the firing. Pollard Young said she received an email response in all the hats, “this was not approved” with a request for more information. Pollard Young presented the additional information, but never received an answer. She lost access to her working email about a week later on March 11, the day Pollard Young and more than 1,300 other employees of the Education Division lost their work in MassesS

Pollard Young was the only employee of the education department to deal with Eric daily. She led a team of 30 performers at AEM Education Services who did the bigger part of the work. Adding documents to the digital library involves many steps, from determining their importance to cataloging and indexing them. It’s MetadataOr descriptive markers that AEM inserts behind the scenes that allow Eric’s documents to be found and rise to the top of Google Search. But the public can search directly on Eric’s website.

The “fun fact”, Paige Kowalski, Executive Vice President of the Data Quality Campaign, an organization that is advocated to make decisions managed by data in schools published in LinkedIn. “In the 20s, when DQC was around, we had poorly designed websites with brutal search functions. I often couldn’t find the resources I wrote! But I could always find them on Eric. A huge resource.”

The bigger part of the collection consists of articles about an academic magazine. Many are full text PDFs that would otherwise be inaccessible behind the paid walls. Eric also contains books, federal, state and local government reports and doctoral dissertations.

Gray

One of his precious stones is the large amount of “gray literature”, which Pollard Young described as unpublished studies by private research organizations and reports of the school area that are not catalized in EBSCO, a private database from academic documents. This is another reason that Google and AI can’t just replace this cure Eric collectionS “So many research is produced in education outside the magazines,” says Pollard Young. “Large, important RCT (randomized controlled tests) are in white documents” or special reports.

In response to specific questions about the future of Eric, the educational department answered more widespread the need to restructure the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) where Eric is managed. “Although it spends hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ funds annually, IES fails to effectively fulfill its mandate to identify the best practices and new approaches that improve the results of education and closely the gaps of student achievement,” says Madi Bidman, Deputy Secretary of Communications. “The department actively evaluates how to restructure IES with a contribution from existing leaders and expert stakeholders, so that the institute provides countries with more useful data to improve students’ results while maintaining a strict scientific integrity and cost effectiveness.”

It is still possible to approve the reduced budget proposal this week before the money expires. But there will be no one in the education department to monitor or communicate with publishers. “The best scenario, Eric operates half of his budget,” Pollard Young published in LinkedIn.

Like other employees of the education department who were fired in March, Pollard Young has been on administrative leave until June. But she said she was ready to risk potential revenge from the administration and talk about the Eric threat protocol, which has succeeded for over ten years.

“I am aware of some of the consequences,” Pollard Young said. “But it is important for me that the field knows that I do everything in my power to save Eric and also the country to understand what is happening. While talking to people across the country, it is clear that they do not fully understand what is happening in DC, we hope that we can put some pressure on it so that we can maintain the financing.”
