Watch: Trump and Modi say the meeting will revolve around the trade

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed “Mega Portrening” between the US and India when he and US leader Donald Trump have completed a meeting on which they announced in Delhi an agreement to import more oil and gas in the US, seeking to reduce this deficit trading between both countries.

Modi’s two -day visit comes when Trump has recently ordered all US trading partners – including India – encountered wide mutual tariffs.

And although both men praised each other’s leadership, Trump criticized India for having some of the highest trading tariffs in the world, calling them a “big problem”.

The Indian leader seeking to mitigate fast trade barriers said he was open to reducing tariffs for US goods, repatriation of undocumented Indian citizens and buying military fighters in the United States.

At a joint press conference, Modi made several links to Trump’s slogan “Make America Great”, including his own spin: “It made India great again,” Modi said.

“Maga Plus Miga … (it’s a) Mega Partnership for well -being”.

Trump also added that India will “acquire a lot of our oil and gas”, trying to close the trade deficit between both countries.

“They need it. And we have it,” Trump said.

Because India already depends on imported oil it shouts from different countries, the energy business with the US “represents relatively low hanging fruits for both sides,” said Radhika RAO, Senior economist Singapore’s Bank.

“The United States is the largest export market for India’s goods and services, which emphasizes the readiness of the administration for a specific smoothing of trade relations and offers concessions to narrow the bilateral trade deficit,” she said.

However, “India’s task will be balanced by its own trade deficit, as the US oil and gas can be more expensive from a stronger dollar,” said the Political Senior Researcher at the Singapore National University Research Institute.

“Mutual tariffs are likely to follow India at some stage. Hope for India they will not be greater than expected,” said D -Ratti.

Trump also added that the United States will increase the sale of military equipment to India by millions of dollars, resulting in Delhi f-35 deli.

They also spoke about immigration – another pain in bilateral relations – with Trump announced that the United States would extradite a person who allegedly intended the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack “to face justice in India.”

Modi thanked Trump for extradition permission and promised to accept the repatriation of Indian citizens who illegally lived in the United States.

Last week of US deported In a military plane 104 Indians accused of illegal immigrants with video Show -deported in shackles. The second flight is expected to land in India on Saturday.

Indians are one of the largest populations of unauthorized immigrants in the US. They also hold most visas h -1b – the program that Trump had temporarily banned during the first term And now it goes under fresh control.

Shortly before the meeting with Modi Trump, he ordered his advisers to calculate broad new tariffs on US trading partners around the world, warning that they could start to take effect by April 1.

He acknowledged the risk of his tariff policy, but claimed that the policy would increase US production and the country would be “flooded”.

Trump told reporters that “our allies are worse than our enemies” when it comes to import taxes.

“We had a very unfair system for us,” the Republican president said before the Modi meeting. “All used the US.”

The White House also released a news output that released a trading shot on the Luke of India and other countries.

The document states that the average tariff for US agricultural goods was 5% for the countries to which Washington gave the status of the most committed nation (MFN).

“But the average used MFN in India is 39%,” the White House said.

“India also charges the 100% tariff for US motorcycles, while we pay only 2.4% tariff for Indian motorcycles.”

Trump has already placed an additional 10% tariff for imports from China, citing Fentanyl’s production, a deadly opioid that started an overdose epidemic.

He also prepared tariffs on Canada and Mexico, the two largest trading partners in America, which could take effect in March after suspension for 30 days.

Earlier this week, he removed the release from steel and aluminum tariffs in 2018.
