In recent years, a multidisciplinary team of experts has been assembled to analyze the remaining evidence and apply the most modern scientific and cold-call techniques to try to solve the crime, the sources said. The team has consulted top experts in their fields, sources said.

It remains to be seen whether there will ever be enough information and provable evidence to support the charges.

On the morning of December 26, 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey woke up to find their daughter missing and a handwritten rescue note on the stairs. Hours later, John Ramsey found his daughter dead in their basement.

JonBenet’s autopsy determined she had been sexually assaulted and strangled, with a fractured skull. Unknown DNA was found under her fingernails and on her underwear.

John Ramsey, with Netflix’s “Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?” who is working on the new docuseries, believes that new DNA technology may help police reinvestigate JonBenet’s murder.

John and Patsy Ramsey and their son were cleared as suspects in 2008.
