Caroline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Trump’s transition team, said several people were targeted and “law enforcement acted quickly to ensure” their safety.
Neither Leavitt nor the FBI identified any of the targets by name.
But Stefanik’s office said the congresswoman was notified of the bomb threat while she was traveling with her husband and three-year-old son from Washington to New York for Thanksgiving.
Separately, the New York police later told the US partner of the BBC CBS that the home of Trump’s nominee for the post of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik was also under threat.
Lee Zeldin, Trump’s nominee to act as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, also confirmed he was targeted, saying a “pipe bomb threat” with a “pro-Palestinian themed message” was sent to his home.
“My family and I were not at home at the time and we are safe,” he said. “We are grateful for the swift action taken by local officers.”
Florida Republican Matt Gaetz, who recently dropped out of the U.S. attorney general race, has also been targeted.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida confirmed that the bomb threat was sent to an address in Niceville.
Police said the home’s mailbox was cleared, no devices were found, and a search of the area turned up nothing.
Fox News also reports that John Ratcliffe, Trump’s nominee for CIA director, and Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegsett have also been targeted in the wave of threats.
