Dress the bells with holly branches, fa-la-la-la la la la laaaa! ‘Tis the season to be merry, fa-la-la-la la la la laaaa!
Of all the things going on right now, the holidays are the perfect time to put on your gay gear and enjoy the holiday season to the fullest. It’s true that we won’t be able to have big family gatherings right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare your home for the holidays, which means decorating your home with holly boughs and other decorations.
Since money may be tight due to the situation the country is facing, you’re probably a little tempted to buy some new holiday decor. That’s totally understandable! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here are some ideas that will get your home ready for the holidays without breaking the bank.Deck the patio and use natural (or inexpensive) decorations.
As crazy as it sounds, cleaning your yard is part of it winterizing your homebut it also makes your garden a little more inviting. Come to think of it, when there are dead plants in flower beds, fallen branches and lots of leaves on the ground, it doesn’t necessarily scream holiday cheer, does it? Well, a messy garden creates a feeling of despair and sadness.
As a homeowner, you should want to make your garden look amazing; Well, at least if you live in a colder climate prone to a lot of inclement weather! Ideally, you wouldn’t wait until right before the holidays to do the cleaning, but life has a funny way of getting in the way.
After cleaning up the garden, you can finally decorate it. Dollar stores are a great place to find inexpensive decorations that you can put outside. Or, if you are lucky enough to have access to natureyou may find evergreen boughs, pine cones, and perhaps holly boughs and/or berries. You can use these items to decorate your mailbox, doors and railings.
Note: If these items are not available, you can go to your local tree farm and order cuttings that they may have. Please note, they may charge a small fee.
Upcycle old or second-hand ornaments
If you’re like us, you start to salivate when browsing the Christmas decorations at your local big box. Who doesn’t love shiny new ornaments or the latest in pop culture? Well, these decorations can be quite expensive and when money is tight, you have to be respectful!
What we mean is that you want to give your existing (or second-hand) decorations a facelift. Maybe your aunt gave you a bunch of generic decorations that you don’t necessarily like. Grab some spray paint and give it a good coat in your favorite color. You can experiment with different finishes (we love a good glossy spray paint!), designs, or try your hand at it throw away the paint and so on.
You can also provide your name for the children to make their own decorations. The possibilities are endless! Plus, you might even start a new tradition!
Enchant your nose with the scents of winter
What smells usually come to mind when you think of the holidays? It’s probably going to be warm apple cider, mulled wine, something in the oven, wood burning in the fireplace and pine, right? Filling your home with these alluring scents is difficult no to feel the joy of the holidays.
Make sure you don’t overdo it with the scents because you don’t want to be attacked by competing scents! For example, you can turn on the fire and bake cookies, but you may not want to cook mulled wine in a pot over a fire. But… Of course, this is just our opinion!
