Wendy Williams custody controversy spurs New York senator to push for new law

Wendy WilliamsCustody issues have the attention of at least one New York lawmaker … who’s pushing hard to make it easier for his family to visit him.

Anthony PalumboA New York state senator tells TMZ … he’s reintroducing legislation today that would change custody laws around family visitation in the state.

New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo

According to Palumbo. “Karilyn’s Law” will allow families to visit relatives by petitioning the court…the guardian will then have 10 days to show the court if the intended visitor is behaving inappropriately and if not, they can visit.

He says the law is meant to provide a legal way for family members to visit a loved one in custody, which he says is lacking in existing frameworks.

Palumbo has been following Wendy’s case for years and tells her to be locked in the apartment it is tragic. He goes on to say that even if his memory is failing, he should be allowed to be with his family instead of being forcibly separated from them.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Palumbo hopes the renewed attention surrounding Wendy’s case will spur lawmakers to act.

Since he first proposed the bill, he says his office has received dozens of calls and letters from concerned citizens about Wendy’s custody.
