An evacuation order is in effect near the city of Malibu in the US state of California after a “rapidly spreading” wildfire.
Authorities named the Franklin Fire, which burned more than 300 acres in Malibu Canyon after it started at about 10:50 p.m. local time Monday (06:50 GMT).
It is not yet clear what caused the fire, which has been described as a brush fire – meaning the type of fire that affects vegetation below, such as grass.
The evacuation order covered the region east of Malibu Canyon Road and south of Piuma Road, as well as the Cerro retreat zone, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
