Greene did not name the six people who were seen in light -blue outfits used by the Venezuelan prison system.
“We wheels up and headed home with these 6 American citizens,” Grenell posted on X. “They just talked with @realdonaldtrump, and they couldn’t stop thanking him.”
Trump welcomed this step in a separate position, saying that Grenell brought “six hostages home from Venezuela.”
Venezuela’s state media stated that discussions with President Trump’s messenger were respectful.
In January, Caracas announced the capture of the “mercenary” group, which included US citizens.
Last month, Maduro swore as a third term as President of Venezuela, six months after the controversial elections that the opposition and the international community say they lost.
The official July 2024 election results were widely rejected by the international community, including the United States.
Grenella’s visit did not mean Maduro’s recognition as a legitimate leader of Venezuela, a White House press secretary Caroline Levitt on Friday.
