The United States will attend the negotiations on the future of the islands, which has become the subject of a controversial transaction between Mauritius and the UK, said the Prime Minister of Mauritius.
Last October, the UK announced that it would transmit the sovereignty of the islands, officially known as the British territory of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius, but will retain 99-year rent over the UK military air base on the largest island, Diego Garcia.
The transaction was reached with the former leader of Mauritius Provind Jagnowut, but the news of the Ramhol, his replacement, was very critical.
Progress has also been detained to allow presidential officials Donald Trump to look at the details of the transaction.
The agreement that reached in October – in the Biden administration in Greenlit – includes the UK, which pays the lease of Mauritius for the UK and the United States.
However, shortly after the transaction was reached, Mauritius chose a new prime minister -Ramhol’s news, who wanted to open talks again.
In a statement at Instagram on ThursdayPrime Minister Ramgul’s office said he accepted “the presence of a representative from the new administration in the United States of America at the negotiations to further strengthen the process.”
Ramgula also said it showed that he was open and ready to “find a common language”, adding that he was sure that there would be “positive permit”.
He is quoted in a telegraph newspaper in the UK, saying that the White House asked him to hold anyone in the negotiations.
Earlier this month, Ramgul told Mauritian deputies that the previous transaction was poorly negotiating the person he replaced, calling him “sale”.
He said the payments that the UK agreed to make Mauricia are not inflationary evidence and should include a large advance.
He also objected to the point when the UK could unilaterally expand Diego Garcia’s rent by 40 years.
It is unclear what exactly in the US is true, but last year, before he held the post, Secretary of State Mark Rubio said he was a “serious threat”, claiming that it gives the islands agreed with China. Mauritius has a trade agreement with China.
In 1965, the UK took control of the islands of Modzas, from its then colony of Mauritius and continued to evict the population from more than 1000 people to give way to Diego Garcia.
Mauritius, who won independence from the UK in 1968, supported, the islands were its own, and, in consultation, the UN Supreme Court ruled that the UK administration is “illegal”.
The islands of something – some in Mauritius and Seychelles, but others who live in the UK do not speak with one voice in the fate of their homeland.
Some criticized this deal, saying that they did not consult.
