He was sentenced to six years and three months in prison in July 2023 after avoiding the death penalty due to a Supreme Court ruling.
Mr Salehi was briefly released on bail before being arrested again days later for sharing “false claims without evidence” – apparently a reference to a video he posted in which he claimed he had been “tortured” by intelligence ministry agents .
In April 2024, he was sentenced to death for “corruption on earth”, although the sentence was later overturned.
The rapper was accused of a number of crimes, including spreading lies in virtual space, violating public order and propaganda against the establishment.
Index on Censorship, the campaign group that worked to secure the rapper’s release, welcomed his release and said Mr Salehi “should never have been jailed”.
His arrest came amid nationwide protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death.
A 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman was detained by religious police while visiting Tehran with her family for allegedly wearing an “inappropriate” hijab.
Hundreds were killed and thousands arrested in the riots that followed.
