Hideki Matsuyama and Colin Morikawa head into Sunday’s showdown at The Sentry with just one shot separating the pair after they both shot 11-under 62 in the third round.

Former Masters champion Matsuyama holds the lead at Kapalua with two-time major champion Morikawa at 26 under in the first PGA Tour event of 2025.

Matsuyama holed an eagle at 18 to reach the season high but had to settle for birdie, one of 11 Japanese players to score, as he posted a career-best unblemished day in Hawaii and held on to his lead in the second round.

American Morikawa also closed with a birdie, his ninth of the round, and followed up with a 25-foot eagle at the fifth that temporarily moved him into the lead.

“Colin played well and I just kind of followed him, so good day,” Matsuyama said. “It was a lot of fun, but I’d like him to take it easy tomorrow.”

Morikawa said about performing in the last round. “You look back at the greats, they did. You look back at Tiger (Woods), he did it every week.

“I think if I asked myself: “Have I done it every time for the last six years?” Probably not, but it’s hard to say this year. “I have four days, let’s see what I can do.”

Belgium’s Thomas Detry is five shots behind Matsuyama in 22nd after an 8-under Saturday, while Korea’s Sunja Im is one back at 21 after matching 11-under 62s by Matsuyama and Morikawa.

England’s Harry Hall is tied for fifth at 20 under after a third-round 66.
