Houndshark species Mustelus lenticulatus

Paul Cauiger

At least one shark species has the skin to go along with his bite. When clicking noises, scientists have notified, among a group of animals, who once thought he was completely silent.

In New Zealand, at Doctoral Research at University of Auckland, Carolin downIn the Oceanographic organization of Massachusetts today, he was studying the hearing of the sharks. When handling sharks in the experiments, he noticed a species – a houndshark called the rumor (Mustelus lenticulatus) – He made sounds that click on the metal.

“I was disabled because the sharks should not sound,” Nieder says. “And it happened.”

It is the ability to deliberately produce sounds among the vertebrates of the earth as a world full of bird’s kirzipur and a wide range of mammals. Underwater, many fish broadcast sounds by dividing objects or vibrating muscles, and 2022 researchers reported some rays – tight shark relatives – shark relatives – Click Diving when you get disturbed. No shark sound has not yet been formally described.

To confirm the existence of noisy tape, Nieder and his colleagues captured 10 young people on the north island of New Zealand. There, sound recorded in tanks with sensitive instruments. The team gently handled the sharks and found that everyone had made a noise in response. It appears to be the first drawing that creates sounds that do not associate with other actions, such as feeding or knocking something.

Researchers believe that sharks produce sounds gathering in the jaw. Click like rays, Riga has flattened his teeth, which can create a strict sound. Listen below.

More research can confirm the source when clicking. Nieder emphasizes that the rumor is a small shark and prey of large animals, so clicking on defense when the animal bites the animal.

“The preacher could be a bit disorientation,” he explained. In doing hunting, it can also be a role, such as scaring the shark crustaceans, for example.

Rig shark teeth

“Shark biology is a long but potentially important area,” he says Aaron rice At New York, Cornell University, was involved with research.

If sound production is widespread among the sharks, their clicks can be useful to study populations to go frequently, says rice. There are many sound data recorded through fish and whale studies that can be captured by shark sounds. These could be used to determine the sharks around, adding another tool to control predatory ads.

“(Findings) indicates what a new discovery in basic biology,” says rice. “It stands out that we don’t know so much about the ocean.”
