Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who claimed responsibility for the president’s failed attempt to impose martial law in the country last week, attempted suicide, an official said.
Authorities found him during a raid at the detention center Tuesday night, Shin Young-hye, head of the Justice Department’s corrections agency, told lawmakers.
In the wake of Yun’s shocking martial law decree, Kim resigned last week along with other top presidential staff.
On Sunday, he was detained for investigation.
