If: Rod Woodson advised Travis Hunterhe tells TMZ Sports he would suggest the Buffs star only play cornerback in the NFL … explaining that he thinks the Heisman Trophy winner could be an All-Pro at the position.
Hunter, of course, was named the MVP in college football earlier this month because of his dominance at both WR and CB, but Woodson says doing both at a high level in the NFL is simply not feasible.
The former Pittsburgh Steeler, who played defensive end in the league for 17 seasons, said he’d rather see Hunter focus on cornerback … and take the occasional wideout like his mentor. Deion Sandersdid during his NFL days.
“I just think if you burn candles at both ends of the stick, he can play well,” Woodson said, “but the odds are he’s going to be great at both. Not in the National Football League.”
Instead, Woodson says Hunter should focus on defense … where “he can be that All-Pro, next-generation corner.”
Plus, Woodson told us that because of the scarcity of blocking DBs, it could be an even more profitable route than the wideout route.
“It’s hard to find young, dynamic corners that come out and can shut those guys down,” Woodson said.
The football world will soon know where Hunter will play. he’ll have an NFL home in a few months.
