The best US prosecutor at Manhattan resigned after the abandonment of a refusal to a corruption case against the Mayor of New York Eric Adams.
Daniel Sasson, a conservative lawyer, who recently advanced President Donald Trump said that the deviation of the case would put a “exciting and dangerous precedent”.
Sasson’s departure – together with two other officials of the Ministry of Justice – is the last sign of anxiety over the relocation, which the Trump administration makes in federal law enforcement agencies.
Supposedly, Adams accepted gifts totaling more than 100,000 dollars (75,000 pounds) from Turkish citizens in exchange for services. He denies allegations.
The case was originally initiated in September 2024 by officials appointed former President Joe Biden.
But on Monday, Trump, who is acting Deputy Prosecutor General Emil Bove, was appointed to abandon the case, saying that “restricted the mayor’s ability to resolve” illegal immigration and violent crime “.
Bava did not resort to the essence of the case and noted that the Ministry of Justice would reserve the right to resume the allegations after the Mary’s election in November.
Sasson refused to abandon the case, but on Thursday, posting his reflections in a letter to the boss, the Prosecutor General Bondi, and stated that she did not see “good faith” the reason for the abandonment.
“Because the law does not support dismissal, and because I am sure Adams committed the crimes with which he was charged, I cannot agree to seek dismissal caused by misconceptions,” she wrote.
Sasson said Adams gave “an incorrect proposal to protect immigration in exchange for dismissal.”
In a letter to Bove, she accepted her resignation. He accused Sasson of trying to “continue to pursue politically motivated persecution, despite the express instruction on dismissal.”
He also stated that other prosecutors who worked in the Adams case would be on vacation and will be subject to an internal investigation – and that Sasson also investigated.
Two other prosecutors of the Ministry of Justice resigned on Thursday: John Keller, who is acting head of the corruption department, and Kevin Drisco, a senior official in the criminal department.
The mayor of Adams, the Democrat, expressed his readiness to work with the Trump administration when it comes to the rigid immigration policy of the president. On Thursday, after meeting with Trump’s Border Tsar, Tom Khman, the mayor agreed that immigration officials could restore an office in a Ricars city prison.
In his statement, Adams said: “I want to work with a new federal administration, not war with them to find common ground and improve the life of New York.”
The Mayor of New York met with Trump in Florida a few days before the inauguration, and then on January 20 attended at the swearing ceremony. At the time, Adams denied that he discussed his legal problems with the president.
On Thursday, Trump told reporters that he did not ask for cases against Adam.
However, the letter describes his indication to abandon the case as “direct orders that fulfill the policy of the president’s properly elected.”
Adams was charged last fall on charges of wire fraud, bribery and receiving company contributions from foreigners.
According to 57 pages, the mayor allegedly accepted more than the hotels, lush dishes and modernization of the airline from Turkish citizens, since 2016, when he was President of the Brooklin city of New York.
In one case, Adams was supposed to pay $ 600 for two nights at a luxury hotel in Istanbul, a visit, which was estimated at about $ 7,000.
