The Lenfest AI program has chosen PROPBLICA among 10 regional and national news organizations for two -year scholarships.
Proopublica scholarships become possible through the financing of both the Lenfest Institute and the Patrick J. McGustrated.
“We are pleased to welcome Dana and Aaron as the first scholarships of engineering II,” said Ben Verdmuler, Senior Propublica Technology Director. “Their unique combination of technical examination and journalism experience perfectly positions them to help us explore how AI can safely increase reporting investigation, while maintaining strict standards, ethical principles and human examination that determine the work of Propublica.”
Chiueh was recently an innovative news engineer in Minnesota Star Tribune, participating in the Lenfest program on behalf of the editorial board. She was the Magic Grant Institute Magic Grant laureate to develop Tipbot, an instrument that automates the missing information from the advice and previously reported about Dallas Morning News and Los Angeles Times.
Brezel joins Propublica from the Brown Media Institute, where he was a leading software engineer. Prior to that, he was an engineer of the software in The Washington Post, where, as the team founder of Toom Tools, he created software for journalists across the editorial board.
