Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department said officials were “well aware of what happened in New Orleans,” including the discovery of an improvised explosive device at a crime scene in Louisiana.
“As you can imagine, in light of the explosion here on the iconic Las Vegas strip, we are taking every precaution necessary to keep our community safe,” he said during a news conference.
Mr McMahill said there was no longer a threat to the Las Vegas community.
The representatives of the fire service reported that rescuers promptly extinguished the fire.
They added that the public should stay away from the area and that the hotel had been evacuated and most guests had moved elsewhere.
