On Wednesday, Manila released a video showing a Chinese coast guard ship blowing up water on a vessel belonging to the Philippine Department of Fisheries.

Separate footage, apparently taken from the Philippine ship, shows its crew shouting “Collision! as a Chinese boat crashes into it.

The BBC has not independently verified the footage.

The Philippine Coast Guard said a Chinese coast guard ship “deliberately struck” the ship and then “launched a second water cannon strike at the same vessel.”

China’s coast guard said in an initial statement that the Philippine ships “came dangerously close” and that their crew’s actions were “in accordance with the law.”

He later accused the Philippines of making “false accusations in an attempt to mislead international understanding” and said he had deliberately collided with the Chinese ship.

But MaryKay Carlson, the US ambassador to the Philippines, said “we condemn these actions” by China.

U message on X, externalshe said the “illegal use of water cannons and dangerous maneuvers disrupted a Philippine naval operation … putting lives at risk.”
