Philip Clement says he has had “really good” talks with new Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart and is delighted the “vacuum” at the club has been filled.
The former Manchester United chief executive will officially take charge at Ibrox on December 16, the day after the Premier Sports Cup final against Celtic at Hampden Park.
The position has been vacant since the previous incumbent, James Bisgrove, stepped down in May.
Stewart’s appointment, which was announced on Monday, comes as pressure mounted on Gers boss Clement following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Dundee United at Ibrox.
They trail Aberdeen by nine points with a game in hand and are 11 behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Clement said before the Europa League match with French Nice on Thursday evening. “I had a meeting with the new CEO. It was a really good conversation and that was it.
“No, I can’t elaborate on that. It’s about my experience at this year’s club and what are the good things and what will improve.
“It’s a very important thing (appointment) because in the last few months there was a big vacuum in the club and a lot of things could not be decided at that moment because there was no one to decide such things.
“So I’m really happy that Patrick is here now.
“We talked really well about everything, about the past year, about my experiences, and he’s doing that with all the people at the club to make a good analysis so that he can start well in mid-December, I think, to make a step forward again.
“Because, of course, it’s not good for any club in the world to be in such a vacuum situation.”
Clement was manager of Monaco before joining Rangers a year ago and while he is relishing his return to the south of France, he insists he is not there for “relaxation”.
Rangers, with seven points from 12, while Nice have just two, could take a huge step towards securing a place in the knockout stages against the French side.
The Belgian leader said. “It’s special to be back. I’ve had a really good time here. I’ve met some really nice people.
“So many friends will come to watch this game.
“Yeah, this looks like a place where you were in really good shape, so I’m glad to be back that way.
“But I’m not here for a vacation or to meet people tomorrow or to talk to a lot of people, I’m here to work.
“I am here with the boys to win or to do everything to win this game because for Nice it is a bigger game than for us.
“They have to win this one. Obviously, we’re going to play against every opponent. We’re never going to play for a draw.
“So if you can win here, I think we’re taking a really big step in qualifying, or you’re almost certain of that.
“And getting a point can also be a really important point at the end. But we will go all out for the three points against a really good team.”
