Firefighters and police rushed to rescue elderly residents from a Pasadena senior center Tuesday night as flames from a raging fire in the Angeles National Forest came dangerously close, and the scenes were shocking.
You can see the dramatic evacuation of about 100 residents, many in wheelchairs, unfolding in the 7-Eleven parking lot across from The Terraces at Park Marino, where embers and ash swirl amid the chaos of a nearby wildfire… what meteorologists call Los Angeles one of the worst storms in a decade.
A police SWAT armored car and bus were brought in to evacuate senior citizens from the Eaton Fire, the second major wildfire to hit Los Angeles County in the past 24 hours.
The fire broke out around 6 p.m. Tuesday and quickly consumed more than 400 acres of brush in just two hours.
Pasadena fire officials said relentless winds were causing the fire to behave erratically, spreading at breakneck speeds as Pacific Chambers Fire which started earlier in the day.
A High Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 PM Wednesday.
