A group of fundamental particles, long theorized but thought to be physically impossible, might exist after all. Known as paraparticles, they may one day have exotic applications if we ever manage to detect them.
Paraparticles are not a new idea, but physicists have previously dismissed them as unrelated to physical reality. The concept originates in a division between elementary particles that always belong to one of two groups, fermions or bosons.
