PROPUBLICA hired Nick McMilan as a computational journalist on our data and news team. In this role, McMillan will use technology and data to find and report stories that are otherwise unattainable.

McMilan comes to PROPBLICA from NPR, where he was a data journalist on the investigation team. In NPR, he combined a report with data analysis, creating tools that turned the unprocessed records into evidence of the investigation. His work included the development of an optical recognition program to disassemble more than 7,000 state work files that helped reveal As a federal program killed thousands of wild animals with little responsibility.
