PGMOL says it is “appalled” by the level of vitriol directed at referee Michael Oliver on social media following Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card against Arsenal at Wolves.
Arsenal are expected to appeal amid widespread criticism of Oliver’s decision, despite the body responsible for refereeing matches in English professional association football.
Lewis-Skelley is sent on for Matt Doherty near the edge of the Wolves box.
The decision was “checked and approved” by Darren England, Var Deeming Lewis-Skelly made a “seriously noisy game”.
Following Oliver’s online abuse, PGMol’s statement reads:
“No official should be subjected to any form of abuse, not to mention that during the last 24 hours Mikayel and his family have been targeted with disgusting attacks.
“The police are aware and a number of investigations have been launched. We support Mikael and all those affected by this unacceptable behaviour.
“This is not the first time the pitch has had to deal with threats in recent times. We will continue to support all investigations.”
Redknapp. Referees can make mistakes
Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp.
“I have spoken to several experts and former referees who have said that it is a bad decision. They are a red card and the player could have rolled his ankle endangering the opponent, not just stopping the tackle.
“He gives him on the ankle, so it’s not a big challenge. Let’s get it straight. He totally doesn’t deserve that abuse, but he could have bought himself a little time, but Referees can make mistakes like footballers can. That’s life.
“But if we get to the point where every mistake is corruption, then we’re in a really dangerous place. VAR is still an opinion.”
“I can’t believe Michael Oliver sent Lewis-km over there,” he said Sky Sports’ Tim Sherwood Football SaturdayA series
“It’s clear and I’ll leave it to you guys,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. Sky Sports After the game: “I’m totally cheating. But I’ll leave it at that, I don’t think my words are going to help.”
PGMOL’s position on the case is a challenge, it’s too late, the tipping point is high, and the videos support that conclusion.
In the second half of Arsenal’s win, Wolves midfielder João Gomes was only shown a yellow card for a high and late tackle on Hurien’s timber.
Although Gomez has been sent off, the fact that he was dismissed for two bookings means he will only miss one match.
In contrast, Lewis-Skelley is currently in MaSSENAL’s home game with Manchester City, live Sky Sports On Sunday, as well as the televised second leg of the League trip to Newcastle and Newcastle and Newcastle and Newcastle, and the Premier League trip on February 15.
