Mohamed Salah is not swayed despite publicly saying he is unhappy with his contract situation at Liverpool, claims Arne Slott.
Salah’s future dominated Liverpool’s press conference ahead of Real Madrid after the striker said he was probably “more out than in”. scoring twice against the Premier League leaders against Southampton on Sunday.
Liverpool manager Slott has refused to comment on the progress of negotiations with his star player, who is out of contract in the summer, saying he has yet to be offered a new deal.
“The only thing I can say is when I look at my lineups, Mo is more in than out. I can give you that quote,” Slott said.
He added: “He’s not distracted at all. I haven’t seen it since the Manchester United game. I didn’t see anything today, he’s fully focused on the game tomorrow (Wednesday).
“If you were in the stadium today, nobody talked about it at least when I was there. The players are also focused on the short term. It’s “Real” and “City”.
“I don’t think there’s a distraction for him, for the players, and certainly not for me.”
Sky Sports Pundit Jamie Carragher criticized Salah on Monday Night Football for focusing on him during a tough week with Liverpool facing Real Madrid and Manchester City.
“I’m focusing a little bit more on what Jamie said,” Slott said when asked about Carragher’s comments.
“He said Mo is one of the best players we’ve ever had at this club. I don’t think that’s a distraction for Mo. After that, we’ve got another game coming up big game
“I’ve spoken to Mo about what I expect from him, as I do with all the other players. I’m not swayed by his comments at all and I don’t feel his teammates are either.”
Carra slams Salah for ‘selfish’ comments
Carragher was “very disappointed” with Salah’s Liverpool contract comments.
“There’s obviously a big difference in valuation now. What Mo Salah and his agent value themselves, whether it’s financially or the length of the contract, is what Liverpool do,” he said on Monday Night Football.
“So the reason Liverpool wouldn’t offer a contract is because Mo Salah would reject it, so they’re still in negotiations. I’m desperate for them to meet in the middle, but I have to say I’m very disappointed Mo That interview with Salah yesterday after the game and it’s out today.
Liverpool got Real Madrid and Manchester City at the weekend, that’s the story of Liverpool right now.
“Mo Salah, we’re all aware, of course, the local reporters are in Liverpool, that in his seven years at the football club he’s been stopped twice in the mixed zone, which is his right, which is absolutely fine.
“However, he decided to stop at Southampton for a third time at the expense of winning the game against Liverpool and ending it.
“The most important thing for Liverpool this season is not Mo Salah’s future, Virgil van Dijk’s and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future.
“The most important thing is for Liverpool to win the Premier League. That’s more important than any of those players and if he continues to make comments or his agent continues to post cryptic tweets, it’s selfish, it’s about themselves and not about football.” : club”.
