The event was broadcast for Netflix’s global reach with 283 million subscribers worldwide. The fight may not have been enough, but a show was put on for those present.
Paul was reported to be earning £30m and Tyson half that, and no expense was spared for a fight that brought in such a ridiculous amount of money.
Paul was driven to the ring in a special green car to the tune of In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins. His brother, WWE wrestler and social media star Logan Paul, sat next to him.
In the back seat was a pigeon he was trying to give to Tyson, who was known to keep sporting pigeons at his home, during fight week.
Fans remained standing as a rousing, pulsating roar of Tyson’s honor reverberated through the stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
Dressed in his signature black attire, he entered the ring with the same stern look he’s had all week.
More than £14.1m was taken in from ticket sales alone, with one group VIP package, which included a ringside seat and photos with the fighters, costing £1.6m.
Boxing royalty Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr. and Andre Ward were part of the telecast – and stars of the Netflix show, such as Cobra Kai, watched from ringside alongside NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
