Mel Gibson turned over the pile of ashes that was once his California home … but he seemed far more concerned with making sure first responders knew how much he appreciated their efforts.
On Wednesday, Mel was photographed returning to her Malibu property, where she was seen shaking hands with firefighters and surveying the damage left from the deadly Palisades fire.
While not all residents were able to get back into their properties, it appears that Mel was able to get away from the fire department as he filmed an interview with a NewsNation reporter.

While Mel recorded that she was just glad her family was safe… there was at least one souvenir she wanted to take with her before she left the property… what appeared to be an end table.
He said last week Joe Rogan he was “sick because I knew my neighborhood was burning. He says the Santa Ana winds were just starting to pick up on Tuesday when he flew to Texas.” referring to what was left of his house.

Mel, who has lived in the house for about 15 years, says she lost a lot of “cool stuff” but knows she can replace it all. She says she plans to clean up the space and rebuild.
Mel is part of a long list of celebrities who have lost their homes Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy, Miles Teller, John Goodman, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and: Leighton Meester, Spencer Pratt and: Heidi Monday, Candy spelling and: Jeff Bridges.
Of course, the vast majority of the thousands of displaced people in Southern California are not rich or famous.
