Majority of people believe their devices spy on them to serve up ads

Most people believe that they have received an online ad as a result of their device eavesdropping on an offline conversation, although there is no evidence that this is actually the case.

Joanna Strycharz At the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and colleagues surveyed 886 people in the US, the Netherlands and Poland to find out what they think about online advertising. The team chose these countries because they believed they represented a range of possible views on surveillance, given that US privacy laws are generally weaker than those in Europe.
