The killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Luigi Mangione went ballistic this week outside a Pennsylvania courthouse because he was “upset” that he had no legal representation at the time, according to his lawyer.
Attorney Thomas Dickey sat down with CNN’s Erin Burnett Wednesday night and chronicled the shocking moment Mangione yelled at the media as police led him to a Blair County, PA, court for his extradition hearing the day before.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit with his hands tied behind his back, Mangio shouted a cryptic message to reporters about being “completely out of touch and insulting the intelligence and lived experience of the American people.”
During his CNN interview, Dickey smoothed over the confusion, telling Burnett that Mangio was “angry” and “upset” about being charged with murder and other serious crimes.
As you know, Mangione is accused of fatally shooting UHC CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street last week because he allegedly had beef with the health care system.
Dickey also said Mangione did not have legal representation until he arrived in the courtroom for his hearing Tuesday.
After appearing in court, Mangione’s demeanor changed as he held Dickey, who would fight for his rights, the attorney said. surrounded by police.
Mangione refused to be extradited to New York on a number of charges, including murder, so for now Mangione will be held without bail as prosecutors and the defense engage in a legal battle to send him back to New York.
