And Mbuya’s personal favorite is jeans, a T-shirt with a picture of her on the front and a blonde wig.
“I’ve never worn jeans or a wig before – so I was happy and dancing.”
Ms Kaumba, who has worked as a stylist since 2012, says her grandmother has “boldness, grace – and appeal in every look”.
All the looks reflect her maximalist chic – an aesthetic that celebrates the joy of excess, eclectic combinations, big and bold, contrasting patterns and colors.
At the heart of it all are eye-catching accessories – bright sunglasses, big hats, necklaces, bracelets, pendants, rings, gloves, bags, blonde wigs, crowns.
This influence came directly from her grandmother, who “was always into pearls and bracelets.”
In one particularly playful scene, titled GOAT (short for greatest of all time), Ms. Chola appears with a goat adorned with Mbuya’s favorite pearls.
