In recent weeks, Israel has carried out airstrikes across Lebanese territory, targeting what it says are Hezbollah operatives, infrastructure and weapons.
On Monday night, the Israeli military carried out airstrikes in eastern Lebanon, in the Bekaa Valley, an area where Hezbollah has a strong presence.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that at least 60 people were killed and more than 50 injured.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the attack.
Israel has gone on the offensive against Hezbollah after nearly a year of cross-border hostilities sparked by the Gaza war, saying it wants to ensure the safe return of residents of border areas displaced by Hezbollah rocket, missile and drone attacks.
Over the past year, more than 2,700 people died in Lebanon and almost 12,500 were injured, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
During the same period, Hezbollah attacked Israel with thousands of rockets and drones, and at least 59 people were killed in northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights.
