England have confirmed their squad for the T20 International against India, starting on Wednesday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Lancashire’s Phil Salt will keep the wicket and open the batting with Nottinghamshire’s Ben Duckett.
Captain Jos Buttler will bat at three while pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood have been named in the side.
The team is as follows.
1. Ben Duckett
2. Phil Salt (WK)
3. Jos Buttler (C)
4. Harry Brooke
5. Liam Livingstone
6. Jacob Bethel
7. Jamie Overton
8. Gus Atkinson
9. Jofra Archer
10. Adil Rashid
11. Mark Wood
Test boss Brendon McCullum is looking to rejuvenate England’s limited-overs squad after delivering two World Cup trophies, with captain Buttler now resuming his role as a specialist number three.
“The one thing he (Buttler) will not do in this series is keep wickets, he will captain from the field,” former New Zealand captain McCullum said at a press conference on Monday.
“It’s a really positive thing for us because it gives Jose the opportunity to have the last word with the bowler and establish that relationship at that last second instead of 22 yards out.
“We’ve got a really good squad, we’ve got a lot of flexibility in the group. We’ve got a lot of options and it’s about putting it all together, which gives us the best chance.”
