I always have fun making my own lotions and balms. and salves. Not only are they affordable, but they’re also a great way to get natural skin care at your fingertips. This dandelion salve is one of my latest creations.

Dandelions boast With so many health benefits, it’s a shame so many people go to great lengths to avoid them. The young spring leaves are excellent in salads. The dried and roasted root is used as a Coffee substitute. And the buds of the flower make sweet wine, jelly and more.

While many people use dandelion internally for its liver health and antioxidant effects, they can also be used topically.

Benefits of Dandelion Salve

It’s easy to find many claims when it comes to Dandelion salve. And while there isn’t much research to back up those claims, there is plenty of historical usage and empirical evidence. Here’s some of what the science has to say.

In the year A 2022 study looked at the effects of dandelion essential oil on cancer and tumors. They found that it has strong antioxidant properties and inhibits the growth and reproduction of cancer cells. This study was done on cells and mice in the laboratory, so more research is needed before reaching any conclusions. However, the volatile oil in dandelion promises to keep the skin and cells healthy.

Another study specifically looked at dandelion seed oil. They also found that it has powerful antioxidant properties and inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Antioxidants used on the skinLike dandelion salve, it has many health benefits:

  • It helps to reduce aging and cellular damage
  • Improving humidity
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
  • Stimulates collagen
  • Support skin care

Dandelion salve is commonly used as a pain reliever and pain reliever and muscle relaxant.

Other elements to brag about

Dandelion is great for many things, but there are other very important ingredients in this salve. I added shea butter for skin softening properties and to increase circulation. Indigenous healers have used shea butter for muscle aches and strains, arthritis, and healthy skin for many years.

Beeswax also thickens the skin and adds a protective layer to the skin. It helps skin retain moisture, doesn’t clog pores, and has strong antioxidants to protect skin cells. Researchers have reported that beeswax products are a rich source of protein, minerals and polyphenols.

Essential oils used in Dandelion Salve

Finally, there are alternative essential oils. This remedy is great without them, but they definitely add some powerful therapeutic benefits. You can also add muscle-soothing essential oils like basil, marjoram, or frankincense. Frankincense is also a powerful skin protectant. Lavender is another favorite for all kinds of skin complaints.

For this part I used frankincense, turmeric and spikenard essential oil.

How to make Dandelion Salve

The first step is to get some dandelion flowers. you can find Dandelion leaf For sale online, but this plant also grows in abundance in most gardens. Be sure to collect from areas that have not been sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, not where dogs do their work. Dandelions have long tap roots that are great for absorbing nutrients and toxins from the soil.

Most recipes (and this one) use dandelion flowers, but dandelion leaves have many of the same benefits if you can find them.

Dry the dandelions

After buying some dandelion flower buds, it’s time to dry them. Some people recommend washing dandelions first, but they tend to break and shrivel. You can simply put them on a clean towel and check for any mistakes or wash them.

Leave to dry on a clean tea towel for several days until dry and moist. This works best in a warm, sunny location. It is important to dry the flowers to prevent the oil from being contaminated by water.

Dandelion seed oil

After the dandelions are completely dry, it is time to put them in the oil. Place the dandelion heads in a clean, dry, 8 ounce (or larger) glass jar. Fill the pot half to two-thirds full with dandelions.

Next, pour your preferred liquid oil over it. Olive oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil are some good choices. If you make sure that the coconut oil is kept in a warm place, it is possible to prevent the coconut oil from solidifying. Make sure the dandelions are covered, keep the lid on the pot and let it soak in a sunny spot for several weeks.
