New York is a thematic study in the Democrats’ inability to understand the developing political landscape.

Texas Republicans force through Guerrilla redistribution map Last weekend, which should allow GoP to get extra five seats in the House of Representatives during the next year’s intermediate elections. The map gives white voters of the state, which make up only 40 percent of Texas population, controlling 73 percent of the Congress state districts. On Tuesday, NAACP sued Texasclaiming that her map is unconstitutionally racist.

There is no real hope that the Supreme Court stops Texas or white people from the advantage in Congress. A more practical answer is other democratically controlled states to play hard and aggressively Hermandard of their Congress areas in the fight against Texas. Trying to live in a Texas community like to try to share a turkey with a frantic dog: all you can do is snatch your hands and take vaccinations. The etiquette and manners are not used here.

California has already started the process. Democrats offered their own new Congress card that will vote as a voter referendum In November this November. But, predictably, other Red States, including Ohio, Missouri, and, of course, Florida are already considering how they can counteract their states with California, which is opposed by Texas.

The next logical player who entered this Gerrymandering Arms race should be New York. Earlier this month, Governor Katiel wanted her position on the matter and took a full -fledged guerrilla redistribution States. The welcome, as a rule, was the weakest of the great governors of the blue state in the stage of Trump and its fascist junta-governor Illinois J. B. Packer (who had already subjected his state to the handle) and California, Gawin New Nuy- (depending on which side of Charlie Kirk he goes in the morning). But it is running for re -election and lift Zohran Mammani in New York She put in her fear of God, so now she wants to talk hard.

The problem is that the surprisingly difficult Jerimandant in New York, and almost impossible to do so in the middle of the decade, between the decoration. The obstacle is not the federal law and the Shambolic Democratic Party of the New York, but the change of New Yorkians made to their state constitution ten years ago. These changes, made with the best intentions, have caught the Democrats at the national level, making one of their pretty states more fair to Republicans who never play fair. New York is a cautious fairy tale about how Democrats win themselves with the rules that Republicans refuse to play. This is an extraordinary example of why Democrats do not receive, and when alien archaeologists are trying to explain the fall of the American -style democracy, they point to the unwillingness of the pro -democratic party to manipulate democracy to protect it.

In 2014, the New York (including I was when I was younger and more naive for the possibility of the committee with my enemies) approved a amendment to the state constitution, which was to ban guerrilla germanding. The amendment is said: “The districts should not be attracted to hinder competition either in order to commit or imperfection of leaders or other specific candidates or political parties.”

Current Issue

Issue of September 2025

At this point, voters, as I probably would have endorsed the call of the Council of Friendly Mega, who fell aslean or Mustafa to make the cards in the most fair and fair way. But instead, New York made the next best and created an independent rethinking commission, which consisted of an even number of Democrats and Republicans, which would lead us a map, subject to legislative approval.

Everything that sounds good. But this is complicated from there because the New York state legislature is obliged to approve the rethinking commission cards, and if it fails or if the commission itself cannot agree on the map (which is sometimes the one who thinks that if -something should be even The number of commissioners for everything you need is to reject the sun), the map attracts the legislative body, and the results usually go to court.

This is what happened ahead of 2022, when the nonsense of New York is heavily worth the Democrats that control the house for the back half of Joe Biden. The rethinking commission offered two different cards; Both were rejected by a democratically controlled by the New York state legislative body; Legislation attracted its own card; The Appeal Court of the New York (this is what we call our Supreme State Court because we are super special) rejected the map as an unconstitutional guerrilla gerimandra; The court appointed a “special master” to draw a new card; And this card cost the Democrats at home.

Political scientists from the Hudson River to the Pacific have accused the state democrats of our enormous failure, so the legislative body started working on new cards. The state’s constitution usually prohibits remodeling maps in the middle of the decade, except: if the current card was carried out outside the normal process of redistribution. This exception allowed the legislative power to draw another Congress map on the eve of the 2024 elections, and this is a map that New York is ready to use for the average period of 2026. Since the current map has been carried out through the usual process, the state constitution prohibits New York again to change its card until the next census in 2030.

The constitution, of course, can be supplemented. Senator of the New York Joanaris and MP Micah Lasher introduced the amendment This would allow New York to redo their maps in Congress in the middle of the decade, if it is in another state at first. Unfortunately, amendments to the New York Constitution are more difficult than navigation around the city under the Canal Street. Starting from this, the earliest New York could make a change in their constitution to defeat their maps, ahead of the 2028 elections.

The Gianaris-Lasher amendment does not actually solve the problem because their proposal does not include New York’s deprivation of the constitutional ban on guerrilla germanding, which first and foremost started the map of the 2022 legislative body. Any new map in New York, which is as aggressive for the Democrats as the Texas map, will probably be surprised by the New York court as unconstitutional.

Joanaris defended his choice to leave the guerrilla ban on New York, saying: “We do not need to donate our principles to do our work.” But he is demonstratively mistaken. We really need to sacrifice our principles on this issue to defeat people who do not have. That’s the way the race works below.

An anti-Seruman amendment in New York 2014 was adopted in a world that no longer exists. This world was destroyed in 2019 by the Supreme Court in its decision Rucho v. The overall reason. In the ruling, John Roberts dissolved that guerrilla germanding is “unreliable”, that is, the courts cannot regulate the germanding made by the state when Herimanderng is made to give one of the parties an unfair advantage over the other. As long as the states are just trying to destroy democratic competition, Roberts says it is normal. This is one of the worst opinions of the Supreme Court of all time, and it opened the gateways for guerrilla germanding more than when it is before.

The Rules for rethinking New York are one-sided guerrilla disarmament in post-Rucho The world. Professor of New York’s Legal Law Noah Rosenblum . He said to me: “Independent rethinking commissions only make sense against any other state, which receives independent rethinking commissions, or courts that perform independent redistribution. This background does not exist.”

I don’t know anyone who is a supporter of a small democracy who wants to live in this way. Obviously, there is no right solution for germanding, but most people understand that the answer we came is wrong. John Roberts decided that Republicans need to make the worst thing they can come up with at any time, and places such as Texas, Excel, coming up with absolutely worse.

The Democrats of New York and Democrats cannot continue to fight more widely until the best intentions are undergoing. Instead of constantly fighting a good fight, the Democrats must try to fight to win. They need to get rid of their anti-Seririman virtue belt, and then Jerimond in this state is so much that in the Chicago Suffle frying, which they call “pizza”, it is more likely to win the competition than the Republican.

I know the Democrats will not, but I no longer understand why. I also once believed that 2014’s amendment was a good idea. Then I grew up and changed my position based on the new Supreme Court information. It would be nice if the State Democratic Party joined me.

At this point, the crisis we need the only, progressive opposition to Donald Trump.

We begin to see how we start to develop on the streets and ballots all over the country: from the Candide company in Mary’s New York Mammani, focused on accessibility, community that protect their neighbors from ice, to senators who oppose weapons.

The Democratic Party has an urgent choice: will it accept a policy that is fundamental and popular, or will continue to insist on the loss of elections with the elites and consultants who brought us here?

At NationWe know on which side we are. Every day we are doing the case for a more democratic and equal world, defending progressive leaders, raising movements, fighting for justice, as well as exposing the oligarchs and corporations that make profits at the expense of all of us.
