Eating golden mushrooms regularly protected heart health and promoted longevity in mice.
golden oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus citrinopileatus) – mushrooms native to parts of Russia, China and Japan – are one of the richest natural sources of a antioxidant called ergothioneine. Human studies have shown that the compound is associated with a lower risk heart disease and premature death. These findings are based on observational data, however, so it’s unclear whether ergothioneine causes any health benefits.
