Scientists may have found another reason to prioritize dental hygiene

Growing evidence suggests that the microbes in our mouths may put us at risk for certain cancers, and may even affect our prognosis if we develop them, but the relationship is not straightforward.

After the gut, there is a diverse microbial community in the mouth, with more than 700 species of bacteria alone that colonize our teeth, tongue and soft tissues.
