Everton 0 – 0 Brentford

Everton were booed by their home fans after they deservedly drew 0-0 with Brentford, who played more than half the game with 10 men.

The Toffees fired 24 shots against the Bees, who had previously lost all five of their away games in the Championship this season, but only five were on target and only Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fifth minute strike as they failed to grab a third successive goal game

The best chance of the game came for the visitors when Matias Jensen played in Yoan Wisa before the break, only to be denied an opener by Jordan Pickford.

It came moments before Christian Norgaard’s red card, which was only awarded after referee Chris Cavanagh was cautioned for a high leg by the Brentford captain on Pickford after sliding in a shot.

Cavani took just a few seconds to consult the VAR review monitor before sending off the Denmark international, who had never seen red for the Bees before.

Everton failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage and worked after the break, not forcing Flekken into another save.

Vitaliy Mikolenko provided a great opportunity after Ilman Ndiaye’s dismissal, and even the introduction of Beto to partner Calvert-Lewin made little difference.

At the end of a fifth home winless run of six games this season, Goodison Park fans made their feelings known to Sean Dyche and his side, who remain three points clear of the relegation zone.

More to follow.
