A fire broke out at a Californian power plant that houses one of the world’s largest battery storage facilities.
The fire started in a lithium-ion battery building Thursday afternoon, a Monterey County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
The Moss Landing power plant, operated by Vistra Corp, was evacuated, as were people in the surrounding area. No casualties have been reported.
Officials are not actively fighting the fire, a Monterey sheriff’s spokesman said, and are instead leaving the building and batteries to burn at the recommendation of fire experts.
