Thieves broke into a storage unit in North Yorkshire, England on Sunday night and made off with a refrigerated van full of 2,500 cakes. Now, the chef who made those pies is calling on thieves to gather some holiday spirit and donate them to a local community center instead of wasting the food.

Chef Tommy Banks says he realizes he’ll never see his van again, and doesn’t think the thieves wanted to get away with nearly a tonne of pie. And since each box containing the cake has its name written on it, he notes that it is unlikely that he will profit from them.

“I know you’re a criminal, but maybe do something nice because it’s Christmas and maybe we can feed a few thousand people with these pies you stole, the way it’s supposed to be,” Banks said. In an Instagram post.

Cakes are not of the baking kind. Their fillings include steak and corn, turkey and cranberry, and pumpkin, Banks said. BBC. They were created to supply a pop-up cake stall at a city Christmas market.

Banks, in her video, estimated that it cost about $31,600 to make the cakes and said she didn’t want the food to go to waste.

“I know the cakes are gone and I know you cut off my van and I’m probably not getting it back,” Banks said. “But you can’t do anything with these cakes because they have my name written on them. So you can leave them somewhere…like a community center…and at least someone who needs them can eat them?”

The cake theft comes just over a month after the robberies He stole £300,000 worth of cheese In an incident known as the “Great Cheese Robbery of London”.
