In southern Ukraine, the city of Mykolaiv was among the hardest hit, with at least two people killed and several injured, while the Black Sea port of Odessa experienced a city-wide power outage.
In the capital Kyiv, fragments from intercepted missiles and drones fell in several places, but there were no casualties.
Poland, Ukraine’s western neighbor, has raised fighter jets to patrol its own airspace as a security measure, Poland’s operational command said.
“In connection with the massive attack by Russia, which is striking with cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones on objects located, including in the west of Ukraine, the actions of Polish and allied aviation have begun,” the message says.
