Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has won most of his employment tribunal claims against the club over £11.5m in unpaid wages the club stripped him of after being accused of sex offences.
The France international and World Cup winner was later cleared of all charges after two trials.
Employment Judge Joanne Dunlop said she had concluded that Mandy was “entitled to some, but not all, of the money claimed back” after a hearing at Manchester Employment Tribunal.
Ms Dunlop said as long as Mr Mandy was not in custody he was “ready and willing” to work and was “preventing doing so which was unavoidable or voluntary on his part”.
“In those circumstances, and in the absence of any authorization by the employer to withhold wages under the contract, he was entitled to be paid.”
The exact amount he will receive will have to be worked out by Mendy and the club or decided at a future hearing if they can’t agree.
