The far -right populist Freedom Party of Austria states that it ended its attempts to form a coalition government with the Conservative People’s Party, övp.
The announcement stems from a few weeks of hot negotiations and means that the coalition negotiations have fallen from the September election for the second time.
Initially, EVP tried to form a three-party coalition with the Social Democrats and Liberal Neos, then a two-party coalition with the Social Democrats, both efforts collapsed.
With the Freedom Party (fpö), the government is unclear, Austria is now in an incomprehensible political situation.
Freedom Party leader Herbert Kikick called for new Swift elections and accused EVP collapsed, accusing the party of not wanting to compromise and play “power games”.
“Although we made concessions to the övp in many points, they were not ready to resolve compromise. EVP was engaged in power games and posed – we, the Freedom Party, were concerned about safety, prosperity and honesty.”
Earlier, Kickl stated to President Alexander van der Belen that he refused the mandate to create what would be the first Austrian government because Fpö founded former Nazis in the 1950s.
Russia, convenient for Russia and the Eurosceptic Freedom Party, has become history in the general election in September, when the election of 28.8% of the vote was first headed, which beat EVP Chancellor Carl Nezhamer, who received 26.3%.
Despite this, in October, President Van der Bellen gave Neskomer Mandate to create a government for the first time. However, these negotiations fell in early January, leaving Neskamer to resign and pave the way to temporary Chancellor Alexander Shalenberg.
On January 6, Van der Bellen gave Kik -Mandate to create a government after the efforts of other parties to create a coalition without failure of the Freedom Party.
Coalition talks in Austria usually remain secret until the decision is made. But in recent days, both sides have made statements about their demands, believing the talks were in trouble.
The Freedom Party wanted both the Mighty Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which became the main obstacle to EVP. For his part, EVP wanted to confirm “lack of Russian influence in Austria” and Vienna remains “a reliable partner in the European Union”.
On Wednesday, the Cyle said he refused the mandate, writing in a statement that “he did not take this step without regret.”
He continued: “övp insisted on clarifying the distribution of portfolios in early February. Although we made concessions to many points in the following negotiations, the negotiations were ultimately unsuccessful, to great regret.”
The Secretary -General of the övp, Alexander Prol, said the negotiations had failed because Kickl was “traveling into force” and refused to compromise.
“Herbert Kikle himself is unlikely to participate in the negotiations. In five weeks, the cyicon was sitting at the negotiating table for seven hours,” he said.
“He did not fulfill his mandate for formation … the government’s government. Instead, he insisted on all his requirements, developed the fantasies of the common power and finished negotiations.”
Political analyst Thomas Hofer said the BBC that there was no “trust” between the two parties.
“Kickl tried to accept Trump’s book about” Promises “, but it is difficult in a coalition setting.
“In the end, EVP decided that the loss of two major ministries with a chancellor who could not control, and no confidence base was too risky,” he said.
EVP was the only party ready to agree with the Liberty Party.
President Alexander van der Bellen said there were four options in Austria after the collapse of the coalition.
These were the new elections, the minority government, the expert government or another attempt to form the government of parliamentary parties, he said.
He said he would negotiate with Austria’s political parties over the next few days to find out what the option was realistic.
“Liberal democracy lives from a compromise,” he said.
