On Friday, NIH said they would restrict the rates that pay for indirect expenses for 15 percent, half of the average rate of 30 percent.

Elon Musk – leader of the recently formed government efficiency department (DOGE), an unofficial expense group that Trump has given Leew to reduce government costs – claims that some universities spend above 30 percent.

“Can you believe that universities with tens of billions in Dorovo were a shutdown of 60% of money for a scientific -research reward for” overhead “?” Musk wrote on X. “What a gap!”

Meanwhile, scientists have expressed concern that reductions will affect vital medical studies.

The Association of US Medical College stated that the preliminary support of the indirect government and administrative expenses “allows medical research”.

This step “will reduce the country’s scientific and research capacity, slowing down scientific progress and depriving patients, families and communities across the country new therapies, diagnostics and preventive measures,” the group said.

Anusha Calbass, a leading radiation oncologist at Stanford University, who receives grants, has stated that grants help “keep light and ventilation that flow in our laboratory, keep us safe from biocherazars, support infrastructure for a large amount of data and use the use Staff that helps researchers focus on science.

The US Education Council said in a statement that grant financing of indirect costs allowed universities to support “advanced laboratories” and advanced technologies needed to remain ahead of foreign competitors and to provide breakthroughs in research.

Group President Ted Mitchell told Washington Post. external What some laboratories have already started to close over the weekend in light of the news.

He said the groups had to file a lawsuit over the cuts as soon as Monday.

The proposal to stop the indirect research of cash has been included in Project 2025, “List of Wishes” Conservative Priorities Written by the Heritage Analytical Center.

“Congress should limit the indirect cost rate paid by the university so that it does not exceed the lowest rate, which the university accepts from a private organization to finance scientifically,” the proposal said.
