Eyewitness Yahaya Mahi told BBC Hausa that the school’s place was complicated by those trying to stop the fire.
“Even if the firefighters came in time, it would be difficult to get to the house from the dense road leading to the house,” he said.
Local official Manir Haidar said other Islamic schools would be checked to make sure they did not represent the fire.
“We will take measures to prevent another occurrence,” he said.
The father of one of the victims told BBC Hausa that he had been devastated, but his faith in God at this time comforted him.
