“The Thai government, including everyone here in Thailand, has long been waiting for this moment,” said the Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on social media.
“I hold on to my hope that the remaining Thai citizen will come out and return to us safely and quickly.”
For the families of the hostage, it was the day they waited for a long time.
After receiving the call to say that his son Pongak was released on Thursday.
“I never thought this day would come, everything was too quiet for a while,” said the 65-year-old BBC boyfriend.
He found that he barely slept the night before, as he was so excited about the prospect of his son’s release.
“I don’t know how to explain how I survived everything that happened,” he continued.
“My son was captured, I lost my wife, I had to remain strong.
“The first five -six months I lost so much weight. It was unpleasant, I had nothing to do and don’t go anywhere. I was constantly worried.
“When I see him, I’m going to hug him and tell him to return home.”
